Internship at a fablab in Paris - MakerSpace

Working at a manufacturing lab enabled me to execute projects on small-scale manufacturing machines like laser-cutter, 3D printer and CNC router. I was trained to handle the production process from start to finish - design stage, drafting accurate working drawings for the machines, handling the machines, material handling, aspects of carpentry and hand-finishing the products. Interacting with clients, analysing and dissecting their project briefs into executable machine and materiel friendly designs, was the main part of my internship at Makerspace that came close to overtaking the joy of making.

Complex geometry

To create, for the lab, a parametrically controlled simple furniture design to produce fast and quick desks using the CNC machine. The algorithm lets the designer control the dimensions of the desk, define the partition size and number, and control the thickness of the wooden planks used. And finally the program also produces a basic layout of working drawings that can be milled with small tweaks. The program is not yet designed for compact packing of drawings on the wooden plank to be milled. Rhino3D and Grasshopper (visual programming plugin) is used to create the design and code.

Redesigning and customising the furniture to suit the needs of Makerpsace. The first furniture I manufactured from start to finish. From creating the files, using the CNC, to sanding the wood, this project was the very first furniture I manufactured unsupervised.
